The fight for Olympic in marathon: Spain

The fight for a place in the Olympic Games marathon is very hot in Spain. Many athletes want one of the 2 places because the current champions of Spain, Carles Castillejo (2h10: 09 in Castellón on December 9, 2011) and Vanessa Veiga (2h32: 50 in Castellón on December 9, 2011 ) are directly selected for the national team in London.

Vanessa Veiga.

32 years old. 1 marathon. Team ADIDAS.

Spanish Champion and directly selected to London 2012 in her debut in Castellon last December. This February run in PB in Granollers half marathon. In London she will run her second marathon. She was an international athlete in junior and under23 but was out when married with Spanish record holder in marathon Julio Rey and now is the mother of tree children. Three years ago started to run and in 2011 jumped in to the road with double Spanish Championships, in april in half marathon and in December in marathon.

She is the reference in women marathon in Spain actually. Last april run in 2h27:00 in Rotterdam, only 9 seconds from the Spanish record, but in Daegu and New York didn’t run in the best. Now she is waiting for a doping ban for a positive competition test in a cross country race in December, 3 or 6 month ban but we don’t now from when to when and the Spanish marathon team for London will decide in 8th may.
